MacBook Pro M5 2025 ․ Details of Apple's new product

The presentation of the 2025 MacBook Pro 14 M5 was quiet: Apple simply published information about the new model on its website. This is probably due to the minimal number of changes compared to the previous generation. In this article, we will look at all the differences of the new MacBook Pro.

Design

Apple designers seem to be getting lazy. The MacBook Pro 14 has not changed externally for three generations. Measuring 31.26 x 22.12 x 1.55 cm and weighing 1.55 kg, the new model with the M5 chip is completely identical to the M4 and M3 versions. They even use the same default wallpaper. The laptop is available in two familiar colors: silver and space black, which, in fact, is more of a dark gray.

The laptop frame is machined from a single piece of aluminum. Apple used the same technology in the iPhone 17 Pro smartphone. The 14.2-inch display has thin bezels, a cutout for the front camera and other sensors. Under the screen is the keyboard, without a numeric keypad, six high-quality and powerful speakers (three on each side of the keyboard) and a huge trackpad with haptic feedback. The MacBook still lacks Face ID: the Touch ID fingerprint scanner in the power button is used for unlocking.

Screen

The new MacBook Pro's display remains unchanged. It has a 14.2-inch display with a high resolution of 3024 x 1964 pixels and mini-LED backlighting, which provides high contrast and deep blacks. With a brightness of up to 1000 nits, it is comfortable to work with the laptop, even in sunny weather. For those who like to watch movies and TV shows, there is also HDR support with an increase in brightness to 1600 nits. The screen supports the P3 wide color gamut and can display up to one billion shades. In the settings, you can choose different color profiles, which is useful for editing photos and videos. Unlike the MacBook Air, it has ProMotion technology with a dynamically adjustable refresh rate of up to 120 Hz for smoother animations. As before, Apple offers a special nanotexture coating on the screen to reduce glare for an additional fee.

Processor and Memory

As with the 2025 iPad Pro, the main change in the 14-inch MacBook Pro is the new M5 chipset. It includes a 10-core processor, a 10-core graphics processor, and a 16-core neural processing unit (NPU), which is responsible for artificial intelligence tasks. The M5 Pro and M5 Max versions have not yet been announced. There are rumors that Apple has delayed their release due to the new architecture. Users will now be able to customize the number of processor and graphics processor cores when ordering.

Thanks to the new chip, the MacBook Pro 14 (2025) offers 3.5 times faster AI performance and 1.6 times faster graphics than last year's M4-based model. Compared to the older M1, the increase in AI performance is up to 6 times.

Like the M4 version, the new MacBook Pro 14 with the M5 chip offers 16, 24 or 32 GB of memory. This memory not only acts as RAM, but can also act as video memory. However, it is important to note that compared to the previous generation, the bandwidth has increased from 120 to 153 GB / s, an increase of about 30%.

In addition, the MacBook Pro 14 (2025) uses a twice as fast SSD, which means that copying and transferring large amounts of data will take significantly less time. It is also important that the base version of the MacBook Pro 14 is now available with up to 4 TB of memory; previously, the maximum was 2 TB.

Battery life and charging

While the new MacBook Pro 14 is significantly more powerful and faster, Apple has maintained the same battery life as the previous model, with up to 24 hours of online video playback and up to 16 hours of video playback. Compared to the M3-based version, the 2025 model lasts up to 2 hours longer, while the M1 version lasts up to 4 hours longer.

The device supports fast charging, reaching 50% capacity in 30 minutes, but only with an adapter with a power rating of 96 W or higher. It is important to note that starting this year, Apple will no longer include its own charger with the MacBook Pro 14 in some countries.

Other features

Like its predecessor, the novelty also has a 12 MP Center Stage camera with an ultra-wide field of view that automatically focuses the frame around the user, even when moving. The camera is complemented by studio-quality microphones for audio recording.

The ports remain unchanged: three USB Type-C ports (USB 4, Thunderbolt 4, DisplayPort, up to 40 Gbps), a full-size HDMI port, an SDXC memory card slot, a 3.5 mm combo audio jack, and a MagSafe magnetic charging port.

Wireless connectivity includes Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6E. For comparison, the new iPad Pro with the M5 chip has faster Bluetooth 6 and Wi-Fi 7. This is due to the inclusion of Apple's own N1 modem.

Is it worth buying the new MacBook Pro 14 (2025)?

The new MacBook Pro 14 with the M5 chip can be considered a minor upgrade. The main improvement is improved performance in artificial intelligence workloads, which will be useful only for a very small number of users. In other scenarios, the difference between the previous two generations is not so significant. Therefore, the transition to the 2025 MacBook Pro 14 is recommended for owners of M2-based or later models. In this case, you will get not only significantly improved performance, but also a new design, an improved display and a number of other changes.
